Did you know that the Statler Brothers, who started out singing Gospel music, were originally known as the Kingsmen? Interesting trivia tidbit I picked up today.

Shanna, I'm wating too to see if Keith knows the answer to your question. It was a pretty unusual way to obtain a name to be used for all these years. Shelby

Keith is not saying if he knows, but yes, Shanna, I do know the answer. I will e-mail your home site to verify that I do know. (No connection to them at all.)

I heard the story beind the Statler name a while back, but have since forgotten. Didn't it have something to do with a conveience store?

Well, since Keith didn't respond I'll give the answer for all you curious folks out there. The groups' name came from a box of Statler Tissues in 1964. They also traveled with Johnny Cash for almost 9 years. Also, nearly every hit song they had was written by either Don Reid, Harold Reid, Lew Dewitt or Jimmy Fortune. They are/were a great group.
