Crabb Family Calling It Quits
An interesting day for Crabb Family fans. I have copied a post by Chuck Peters (www.southerngospelreporter.com) from a SG fan website:
CRABB FAMILY.. ONE MORE YEAR. August 1.. 2007 will mark the end of The Crabb Family.. as the group we know today. The official anouncement was made Tuesday (08/01) in Hendersonville, Tn. Press information released shortly after the announcement says each member will keep with tradition and continue to pursue their separate ministries once their tour has been completed. The siblings feel it is time to move to a new season and are anticipating what God has in store for all of their ministries. The Crabb Family will set out on a tour immediately to thank their fans for their unwavering support. The CF representative adds: "Everyone is being asked to respect the decision of the Crabb Family and keep each of them in your prayers.
Ironically, this announcement comes after several of the concerts on their "Blur the Lines" tour was cancelled.
The Crabb Family have been awesome, no doubt about it! They are one of the few groups that make it in my "buy every CD they produce" category.

I stand by the comment. No other group has made an impact on a genre of music in a shorter amount of time.
yeah, i know what you mean keith. hilary duff falls in that category for me. lol
They may have made a big impact but they are not Southern Gospel. A couple of their early songs did fall in that catagory i.e. "Don't You Wanna Go" & "Jesus In A song". For the most part they just sounded like Jason was seeing how far he could push his voice. When I saw them on a Gaither tour their words were undiscernable and so loud we plugged our ears...40 of us! If they had stayed as they sounded 7 or 8 years ago I would have stayed a fan. As it stands now I don't really care if they disband.
First of all, I don't think there is a clear-cut definition of Southern Gospel. While I will admit that Jason probably pushed his voice too hard at times, there is not a vocalist in SG who is a better communicator. The pushing voice theory could have been applied to Vestal in the good ol' days, but I digress. The beauty of the Crabbs ministry is that they were impossible to pinpoint. They sang a message, not a style. And as for sound, let me say from experience that at those large concerts you are at the mercy of the soundman. Now, it is a given that the CF would carry a little more weight that LQ, but nevertheless the group isn't in the driver's seat on that one.
One other point that I would like to bring up concerning the Crabb Family: their lyrics were some of the strongest in the biz. Yeah, there was occasionally some chaff (eg "Sacrifice of Praise" on Driven), but overall their songs were powerful and packed an incredible message. "Through the Fire" is one of the top songs written in the last 10 years. The only groups that can come close to the lyrical quality of the Crabbs are The Perrys and the Talley Trio(even though Brian Free and Assurance is coming up the road, especially on their latest album).
