Interesting. I rather doubt Land would have supported Thatcher for president, though, due to her pro-choice views. (At least, I hope Land wouldn't have!)
I find it hard for a woman to be "the husband of one wife..." of course in today's society, and with the twisting of truth, it may be possible. Why can't folks just be content to just believe what scripture says and let it be? A woman being a pastor, and a woman in political office are 2 very different things. There, now you have my take. ~Shanna~
Wow! This is a very interesting subject, one I had the priveledge to experience first hand like 2 years ago. Let me just say, I was brought up that this is a big no-no. The experience I had ended really bad also. So I am going to be very interested to see what other say. I may offer my two cents later. Since Sarah Paulin, I too have been rethinking this whole issue again too.
I think it is interesting how different literal Biblical views are than the world's views. I think there are different roles for men and women. I do not believe that men are as good in the home as women are for the most part. I believe that men are set up emotionally for leadership better than women with some exceptions. Why don't we appreciate our roles more and not try to do what the other sex is better at than our sex? Jason Baker
Keith--First off, I just wan tot let you know that I really enjoy your blog. It's fun to read about SG music from a musician's point of view.
About the magazine, the bottom line is that Lifeway has the right to pull any book or magazine they want if it doesn't conform to their doctrinal views. Personally, I wish that they had left the magazine alone, and used it to start discussions about women in ministry. But if they feel that ordaining women is sinful, then they shouldn't allow it in their store.
As for the issue of women pastors, I think maybe we've misinterpreted that 1 Timothy 2 passage. I think the issue is usurping authority, not women in leadership. (Although I'd also argue that being an elder isn't about authority at all, at least the way Jesus/Paul intended.) But I realize that a lot of people disagree.
Keep up the good work! I look forward to hearing the new songs...
