American Idol

Just for the record, America finally got it right. Taylor Hicks was the man from day one. He definitely doesn't fit the definition of American Idol, that's for sure. Those funky moves coupled with his infectious energetic singing won me over. He is a true entertainer. Congrats!

Boooo! Originally, my picks were Paris and Lisa. It was just WRONG that they got the boot. And then the gripe over Mandisa singing the gospel song--heresy! Mandisa ROCKS! Katherine was good, but she wasn't my favorite.

When it all came down to it, Taylor was 3rd from the bottom for me; Chicken Little (worst), then Bucky, then Taylor. He wasn't that he couldn't sing, he was just plain weird!! However, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. We can calmly agree to disagree (strongly)...

You're right, Carrie. Mandisa does ROCK! I liked her the best but of course, Paris was good and I liked Taylor, Katherine, and Chris. Chicken Little was the worst by far. I couldn't believe he lasted as long as he did. America made a good choice. Taylor is a good entertainer. Rock on Soul Patrol!!!

American Idol is a mockery of the music profession.

I respectfully disagree with ghost. The "music profession" has become so self-absorbed with its own importance that it fails to entertain. The obsession with obscure lyrics (all created in the name of art) and uninteresting and repetitive scores is killing today's popular music. Even the underground music scene is rampant with bands who are more interested in being cool and brooding than in creating music that is entertaining. Give me American Idol any day. I'll take a karaoke version of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" over some current chart-toppers.

That is hilarious! I value jokes with a macabre flavor.

By the way, Carrie, Lisa was just awful. I am very surprised that a great talent scout such as yourself would fall for the Disney showgirl. You, after all, were part of the cast in some incredible musicals hosted on the stage (see picture: folding tables) of the Pitts Building. Paris could never win, simply because her speaking voice would eventually cause concert-goers to rush the concession stands and grab plastic forks which would then be jammed into their eardrums. She had talent, but I don't think she knew what genre she wanted to sing. I agree with your evaluation of Chicken Little and Bucky. Simply terrible. However, I would have to add Ace to that list. The only reason he got any votes was because of his looks. Vocally, he was awful. Katherine had a fantastic voice, no doubt about it, but her performances became more about sultry poses for the camera than singing. Her last 3 weeks did nothing for her.

The finalists should have been Chris and Taylor. Now, I'm not big into rockin' music, but Chris can sing. He also has a magnetic personality that will eventually turn him into a superstar.

Taylor, by far, turned in the best performances, night in and night out. He doesn't have the greatest voice (he has a good voice reminiscent of Joe Cocker), but he has a contagious stage presence that makes you instinctively grin. He is an awful dancer. But that's part of what made America vote for him. He's one of us. He's a normal guy.

Katherine, Chris, Kelly, Paris, and probably even Mandisa will get recording contracts (Mandisa will be the next Shirley Caesar). And they deserve them. But the right man was voted in.

(whew...)

lies, pure lies keith! katherine shoulda taken it all!! i mean seriously! and taylor looked like he was 100 years old practiacally, and he's only like, 25 or something! what's up with that? well, whatever, i guess it's pointless to argue since there's no changing the final descision! c-ya!

First off, Keith, you just have a way with words. That monologue would have convinced me, except I can't get that week out of my head (near the beginning) where Taylor was having one of his weird convulsive moments. Those did subside onstage, but the damage had been done to my sensitive eyes. ;)

Ok, Taylor was more consistent than Lisa. And yes, Paris' voice will someday be Daisy Duck, but Paris could sing like I've never heard. I still think Mandisa deserved to win, although I also liked Chris (he was my pick of the guys). I heard he had a stinky attitude over getting voted off, though.

Talent scout!? I sit here chuckling at the musical memories. I don't know what to say--I'm just sitting here laughing. :D

Carrie, you were the star. I'm telling you, the rest of us were just supporting characters. Now, I will say that Jeremy's endearing soprano renditions were particularly popular with the packed houses we performed for.

I agree! I was on the Soul Patrol from day one. He's awesome! Can't wait to buy his CD...but it won't be as fun, when I can't watch his seizure-like moves.

those words you speak of could be offensive to people with seizures! although...........i agree! :~)
